2014/2015 Season

Welcome to the 2014-2015 Season of the New Westminster and District Band Society:

It is exciting to remember that we are celebrating over 81years of community music!

I am so excited to be returning myself for another year of playing clarinet, and looking forward to reuniting with old friends and meeting new people as our rehearsals begin again next week.  On behalf of the executive, we welcome back our band directors John White, Kevin White, and Adam Jones for another season of brilliant leadership and music making.

I’m also very pleased to announce that the Senior Concert Band has been invited to play for the grand opening of the new Anvil Center in New Westminster on Sunday September 14th beginning at 12:00 noon – come on out and support the band society!

Returning members, don’t forget that you can now earn credits towards your fees by referring new players into the Intermediate and Senior bands so, spread the word, and bring a friend!

See you soon,

Angela Adam
NWD Band Society President

The start of a new season!

A welcome back to all returning members of the New Westminster and District Band Society!

We hope that you all had a fantastic summer (everyone did practice….right?), and we’re looking forward to seeing you all in the next couple of weeks.

Intermediate Band will start next Thursday, September 4th and the Senior Band will begin on Monday, September 8th.

Beginner Band will be on a leave of absence for the 2014-2015 Season, but please click on JOIN A BAND to get us your information if you are looking to take up an instrument.  We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop once the Beginner section re-starts.

IMPORTANT

Please note that during the job action by the BCTF, rehearsals will NOT take place at Richard McBride Elementary.  They will instead take place at St Thomas More School in Burnaby.  The rehearsal times will stay the same.

If you have any questions about the start of the new season, please email us via the CONTACT US form.

Upcoming Spring Concert

Make sure to mark your calendars for Monday March 10th at the Evergreen Cultural Centre!

This year’s concert is entitled “Music of the Americas” and features music that some of you will have played when you were in the Band.  Selections include: Howard Cable’s “Newfoundland Rhapsody”, a beautiful arrangement of “Shenandoah”, “Canadian Folk Song Suite”, Aaron Copland’s remarkable “Fanfare for the Common Man”, “El Capitan” march by John Phillip Sousa, among others great pieces written or arranged for winds and percussion.

The program also showcases a clarinet quartet and an amazing piece featuring Gene Dowling, internationally known tuba soloist and Yamaha clinician.  I am certain you will enjoy this program of “Music of the Americas“.

Check with Band members for tickets or buy them at the door (advance buying is recommended as this theatre will sell out).

Christmas Concert Tonight!

The Christmas spirit will be in full swing this evening as all the ensembles of the New Westminster and District Band society perform at our annual Christmas concert.  The evening will be filled with music, door prizes and of course, treats!

Please feel free to join us!  There is no cost for this concert but space fills up fast, so get there early!

Concert starts at 7:00 at Richard McBride Elementary in the gym.

2013-2014 Season

During the 2013-2014 season the New Westminster and District Band Society is celebrating 80 illustrious years of history and ongoing contribution to the community.  Although the bands were initially developed to involved youth, each of the five ensembles which comprise the Society’s range of bands now welcome members of all ages – from Beginner to the Senior and Jazz Bands.

The Band’s history includes numerous provincial and national championships as well as participation in major international events.  A high standard is still expected  … and achieved.  The Band’s history also includes cross-Canada tours and trips to Canada’s North, Australia, Japan, and Europe.  .

You are always welcome.  Please consider joining one of the ensembles or, at the very least, attending one of the Society’s scheduled concerts.
