Upcoming Spring Concert

Make sure to mark your calendars for Monday March 10th at the Evergreen Cultural Centre!

This year’s concert is entitled “Music of the Americas” and features music that some of you will have played when you were in the Band.  Selections include: Howard Cable’s “Newfoundland Rhapsody”, a beautiful arrangement of “Shenandoah”, “Canadian Folk Song Suite”, Aaron Copland’s remarkable “Fanfare for the Common Man”, “El Capitan” march by John Phillip Sousa, among others great pieces written or arranged for winds and percussion.

The program also showcases a clarinet quartet and an amazing piece featuring Gene Dowling, internationally known tuba soloist and Yamaha clinician.  I am certain you will enjoy this program of “Music of the Americas“.

Check with Band members for tickets or buy them at the door (advance buying is recommended as this theatre will sell out).

 

2013-2014 Season

During the 2013-2014 season the New Westminster and District Band Society is celebrating 80 illustrious years of history and ongoing contribution to the community.  Although the bands were initially developed to involved youth, each of the five ensembles which comprise the Society’s range of bands now welcome members of all ages – from Beginner to the Senior and Jazz Bands. 

The Band’s history includes numerous provincial and national championships as well as participation in major international events.  A high standard is still expected  … and achieved.  The Band’s history also includes cross-Canada tours and trips to Canada’s North, Australia, Japan, and Europe.  .

You are always welcome.  Please consider joining one of the ensembles or, at the very least, attending one of the Society’s scheduled concerts.

The 2013-2014 Season is Upon Us!

Welcome back everyone! To the Newest members and the veterans, this is going to be an exciting year of making music.  We have some great concerts planned for this year which will include our POPs concert at the MJF theater November 18th featuring the Senior and Jazz bands. As well as the Senior Band Showcase at the Evergreen theater in March.  Of course we will have our favorite Society concerts at Christmas on Dec 2, in the Spring on May 5th at Douglas College, and finally on Father’s Day June 15th.

I can’t wait to see what John, Kevin, Rebecca, and Jonathan have in store for us musically this year.

Concert – Dawns A New Day

The Senior ensemble of the New Westminster & District Concert Band is proud to present our concert entitled “Dawns A New Day”.

Prompted by acts of tragedy, conflict and crisis, the program explores the amazing resiliency of the human spirit and humanity’s constant search for meaning and happiness.

Welcome back everyone!  The 2012 – 2013 band season is upon us.  We have already had the first practice of the Jazz, Beginner and Intermediate bands.  Monday the 10th of September is the first Senior band practice and I am really looking forward to it.  I can tell you there were some tired embouchure’s after Tuesday and Thursdays practice but the Intermediate and Jazz Bands are already sounding good.  Senior Band the baton is to you!

Fathers Day Concert in the Park

Thank you to all who joined the society this past Sunday for our annual Fathers Day Concert at Queens Park.  While the weather early in the day was questionable, it cleared long enough for all 4 groups to perform.
